Job Description

The Director of Culinary Services will be a visionary for the culinary experience of AVI Foodsystems, Inc. in the Healthcare Division. This position will assist in the development and creation of culinary product presentations using market research and food service industry trends. The position will align closely with the culinary/marketing department, purchasing and product development teams to create innovative food concepts and recipes. The position combines food and trend research, hands-on management on a high end working chef level, top level innovation with on-site presentations.

Duties & Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure that all pertinent Environmental Compliance Plans, Safety Management Systems, and Public Health standards are being upheld in area of responsibility
  • Support the development of standard recipes, individual contemporary plate presentations, and photographic records of each dish
  • Recommend changes to the division when adjustments are necessary to recipes, menu plans, procedures, policies and/or standard item lists
  • Lead culinary presentations that are developed by a central development team; communicate product capabilities and culinary concepts supported by trends and culinary/industry knowledge
  • Provide consistent, clear and effective communication with culinarians and clients, AVI managers, and leadership team
  • Perform ongoing research of menu trends and culinary activity at top accounts to be able to implement with the collaboration of the executive chef and vice president for culinary services
  • Build strong and effective relationships with all core areas of the cross-functional product development team including marketing, purchasing, logistics, training and finance
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with key suppliers while discovering new vendor opportunities; continue to uncover opportunities that will lead to AVI Foodsystems Inc. business growth and profitability
  • Help facilitate and manage the vendor review process and support vendor certifications working in conjunction with purchasing and logistic teams
  • Perform other job related functions as assigned

 

Job Requirements

  • A degree in culinary arts from a recognized institution
  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field is preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of extensive experience in food operation, preferably in contract food service and a large multi-location, complex organization
  • Thorough knowledge of menu writing methods, catering operations, equipment and menu construction/engineering
  • The ability to travel to hospitals throughout multiple states
  • Must have prior experience leading, motivating, developing and training teams
  • Proven ability in meeting and maintaining budget goals
  • The ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form with clients and support staff and senior leadership
