Employee & Labor Relations Manager (Wellesley College)

AVI Foodsystems is looking for an energetic and positive leader to immediately hire to fill the role of Employee and Labor Relations Manager at the prestigious Wellesley College in Wellesley, MA.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the administration of the collective bargaining agreement
  • Support and advise front line management staff on grievance resolutions and proposed responses
  • Manages the day to day relationship with dining services team members
  • Liaison for the dining team to Wellesley College
  • Participate in the recruiting and onboarding process for new hires
  • Assist with HR functions at regional work locations
  • Partner with company HR leaders to ensure division and company practices are aligned
  • Consult with management team to create a work culture that promotes company values
  • Monitor the effectiveness of HR processes and collaborate with leadership to make changes as needed
  • Develop measurement and assessment methods to ensure consistency and fairness
  • Counsel and advise management on policy and practice issues
  • Act as a strategic business partner by working with management to support business strategies
  • Consult with clients on human resource issues and resolve operating issues through established policies and procedures
  • Enlist HR content experts as needed to address unique needs and issues with policy
  • Collaborate with other HR professionals at the corporate headquarters to ensure consistency of HR philosophy and standards
  • Keep human resources leaders apprised of critical operating and climate issues
  • Actively participate in team member relations
  • Communicate effectively with management at all levels to identify staffing needs
  • Assess candidates for open positions and conduct thorough interviews
  • Collaborate with Wellesley College Recruiter to execute the hiring process for hourly team member
  • Coordinate communication between applicants (hourly workers and students) and hiring managers
  • Conduct new hire orientation and facilitate other soft skill learning opportunities as needed
  • Work with College department on employee relations situations including but not limited to LOAs, accommodations, Title IX, retirement

Requirements:

  • Strong work ethic
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field is preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of Human Resources experience
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees
  • A proven track record of success in partnering with the business in the following areas: recruitment, performance management, compliance with federal and state employment laws, team member development, and coaching/counseling
  • Experience in team member relations support to team members in multiple locations
  • Self-motivated with ability to function independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in U.S. employment and labor laws, as well as systems and methods relating to staffing, performance management, training & development, career planning and succession planning
  • Advanced understanding of HR functions, practices, policies, employment law and regulations
  • Ability to handle matters in a discrete and confidential manner
  • Ability to act objectively while coaching team members and leaders through issues that are complex, difficult or emotional in nature
  • Competency with Microsoft office products including, Excel, Word and PowerPoint, as well as experience with an HRIS system
  • Experience with labor unions strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with MA and Federal labor laws and generally accepted practices and procedures
  • High level of creativity and excellent problem solving skills
