Job Description

  • Provide management and supervision of foodservice team of unit
  • Participate in the development of and adherence to policies and procedures that direct clinical services, food preparation, distribution and service, purchasing, sanitation, safety practices, performance improvement and team member education and development
  • Develop and implement cost effective systems throughout the department
  • Plan, organize and direct the work of team members engaged in the storage, preparation and serving of food for patients, team members, etc.
  • Review and evaluate existing operational methods and procedures of food and nutrition services program for effectiveness and efficiency, initiating changes as necessary to ensure compliance with Federal, State and County laws, rules and regulations, as well as the rules and procedures of hospital accrediting bodies
  • Ensure proper food and physical safety and sanitation
  • Uphold the level of food quality that AVI requires
  • Maintain and foster positive and professional working relationships both within the assigned healthcare account and throughout AVI
  • Oversee the food safety and nutritional care aspects of the food and nutrition services department to ensure full compliance with Federal, State and other regulatory agencies
  • Work closely with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy
  • Conduct and document nutritional screening, assessment, planning and evaluations of patients in compliance with federal and state guidelines
  • Conduct in-services and educational presentations to facility staff as needed
  • Identify and collect performance improvement data, monitors outcomes and initiates corrective actions


Job Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years of progressive management experience in an acute care hospital food service setting
  • Minimum education includes a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from an approved/accredited university or college program
  • Required licensure and certification of Registered Dietitian from the Commission on Dietetic Registration
  • The ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form to patients, public, staff and physicians
  • Ability to function independently on patient care units and ability to counsel and educate others
  • Comprehensive knowledge of nutrient analysis, word processing and computer skills
  • Must have a basic understanding food preparation and cooking methods
  • Ability to comprehend and guide others in understanding guest service principles as they relate to food production and the flow of the foodservice operation
  • Possess the ability to supervise and train team members, to include organizing, prioritizing and scheduling work assignments
